 Rupi Kaur

     Rupi Kaur is a Canadian poet, writer, and illustrator. She was born in Punjabi, India, and moved to Canada when she was four years old. She published a book of poetry, titled Milk and Honey, in 2014. Her first book is the best selling book in the U.S. Milk and Honey has sold over a million copies. According to BookScan, totals taken near the end of September, nearly 700.000 copies has sold. It's also reached number one of the New York's Times bestsellers list. 

     Milk and Honey is a book of poetry, prose, and hand-drawn illustrations. It's about violence, love, loss, and femininity. The book is divided into four chapter. Each chapters deserve a different theme. Deals with a different pain and heals a different heartache, Her artistic work has found a home in the hearts of millions. In 2017, Milk and Honey has been translated over 30 languages.

     In 3 October 2017, Rupi Kaur announced her second book, titled The Sun and Her Flowers. Like her previous book, it's a book of poetry, prose, and hand-drawn illustrationts. It's also divided into four chapter. But, this time, she wrote about growth and healing. This second book of poetry is everything her fans have been waiting for. And just like the Milk and Honey book, she illustrated the hand-drawn by herself. 

      Rupi Kaur said that she got inspiration from other people's stories and experiences, and also from her own experiences. She likes to go to the bookstores to find stories that can inspire her. She likes to red nonfiction books, like biographies. At first, her parents encouraged her to study science, but she resisted. Before she released a book, she had been putting her writing through her blog for years, through her Tumblr, and her Instagram. It makes her known by so many people because of her writing. Poetry doesn't often capture much attentionts like this, but Rupi Kaur reached it through her beautiful writing.

     She started her writing in middle school. She won an essay and speech competition when she was in 7 grade. She also won an award for reading her work out loud in front of hundred stundents in her school.  When she was in high school, she started journal writng. This is the first time she mixed together between art and words. She wrote journal while she started to learn hand-drawn illustration. In 2010 she started published her highschool writing in her blog.

     She write because she have read thousand books of biography, how others grow up, but none of it can explain the pain, the feeling, she got through her life.
